Top GOP rep ‘a little uncomfortable’ with Trump language describing ISIS leader’s death
Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas), the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee, said he was “a little uncomfortable” with President Trump’s description of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s death.
“Oh, it probably makes me a little uncomfortable to hear a president talking that way,” Thornberry said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“But, again, Baghdadi was the inspirational leader for an ISIS network across the world from Africa to Southeast Asia. If you can take a little of the glamour off you, if you can make him less inspirational, then there’s a value to that for all of these folks who are on their computers or in these networks looking to attack,” he added. {mosads}
Trump announced the terrorist leader’s death Sunday, after a Saturday night raid he said he watched from the situation room.
The president described al-Baghdadi as “whimpering and crying” before dying “like a dog” and “like a coward.”
Trump said no U.S. forces were killed in the attack.
