Katie Hill to give final floor speech after Trump impeachment vote

Rep. Katie Hill (D-Calif.), who announced her resignation from office earlier this week amid reports she had inappropriate relationships with congressional and campaign staffers, said she will give her final floor speech on Thursday after the House vote on the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

{mosads}Hill tweeted that she will vote on the impeachment decision before making her speech sometime between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Her office also said that her last day on Capitol Hill would be Friday.

“Tomorrow I will join my colleagues to vote to affirm the impeachment inquiry and then deliver my final floor speech,” Hill tweeted Wednesday night.

“See you then,” she added.

The freshman representative, who was seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party, announced her resignation Sunday, four days after the House Ethics Committee began an investigation into Hill about her sexual relationship with a staffer.

Hill admitted to the relationship taking place before she was elected and apologized, calling it “inappropriate.”

In the 2018 midterms, she flipped a Republican county blue.

“Resigning from Congress was one of the most difficult decisions of my life. But I could not allow myself to be a distraction from the constitutional crisis we are faced with and the critical work to fulfill our promises of quality health care, housing we can afford and a government that works for the people,” USA Today reported Hill said. “I look forward to joining my colleagues tomorrow to give my final floor speech, and to working with them in other capacities in the future.”

The first vote on the impeachment inquiry against Trump is scheduled for Thursday following a number of high-profile testimonies given behind closed doors with the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs and Oversight and Reform committees.
