READ: Kurt Volker’s opening statement in impeachment hearing
Kurt Volker, the former special envoy to Ukraine, testified publicly before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
Volker is considered a key witness in the inquiry. He resigned from his position a day after the release of a whistleblower report that said Trump pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden and that White House officials sought to cover it up.
Volker said in his opening statement that he “at no time … knowingly took part in an effort to urge Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Biden.”
