McCarthy raised $400K after marathon speech

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) raised more than $400,000 in the days after his marathon speech on the House floor that forced Democrats to delay a vote on their social spending and climate package.

More than 18,000 online donors made contributions in the days following McCarthy’s remarks, according to Fox News, which lasted more than eight and a half hours. He broke the previous record for the longest floor speech, which was set by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in 2018 when she spoke for eight hours and seven minutes.

McCarthy raised $100,000 in the hours right after the floor speech, which concluded in the early morning on Nov. 19.

McCarthy has expressed confidence that the GOP will win control of the lower chamber next year, saying in February that he would “bet my house” on that happening.

The House minority leader has funneled $19.4 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) over the first nine months of this year, as well as $8.3 million to support GOP incumbents who are running in close races, according to Fox News.

He has also transferred $2.3 million to Republican state parties.

The GOP also has significant funds in the bank after the NRCC’s annual fundraising dinner, which took place in Florida on Nov. 8 and featured former President Trump as the keynote speaker.

The campaign arm brought in roughly $17 million that night.

House Democrats ultimately passed the roughly $2 trillion spending package after McCarthy’s speech, sending the mammoth legislation to the Senate for consideration.
