GOP lawmaker says CNN reporter should be fired

Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas) slammed CNN’s Jim Acosta on Twitter, demanding the reporter “be fired” for being “disruptive and disrespectful” to President-elect Donald Trump.

Weber’s tweet comes after Acosta demanded he be allowed to ask Trump a question after the president-elect slammed CNN for running a report stating he had been briefed on information in an unverified, uncorroborated dossier claiming the Russian government had compromising information on him.

“Your organization is terrible,” Trump told Acosta when he tried to ask a question.

“You’re attacking us. Can you give us a question?” Acosta replied.

“Don’t be rude. No, I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news,” Trump responded, pointing at Acosta, before calling on a reporter from Breitbart.

After the press conference, Acosta said on air that he knew at the beginning CNN likely wouldn’t get to ask a question. He said Trump had initially pointed to him but then gestured with a wave that signaled he wouldn’t call on him for a question.

“I felt it was only fair that if our news organization is going to be attacked, that we get a chance to ask a follow-up question about what Donald Trump was talking about,” Acosta said.

Weber, who represents Texas’s 14th Congressional District, supported Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for president until he dropped out of the primary race in April.
