Fox News was Trump voters’ top source for election news: Pew

Fox News dominated the attention of President-elect Donald Trump supporters, according to a new Pew Research survey released Wednesday. 

Forty percent of Trump voters say they relied on Fox News for election coverage, far eclipsing any of its competition, according to Pew.

CNN finished in second place, albeit with just 8 percent of Trump voters saying they tuned to the Time Warner-owned cable news network. Facebook (7 percent), NBC (6 percent) and local news (5 percent) rounded out the top five. 

{mosads}Of those who supported Hillary Clinton, 18 percent of her supporters getting their news from CNN. MSNBC was second, with 9 percent of Clinton voters turning to the Comcast-owned network. Facebook and local TV tied for third, at 8 percent, while The New York Times came in with 5 percent. Only 3 percent of Clinton supporters turned to Fox for election coverage. 

When aggregating the poll to encompass all voters, Fox was the top source for election news with 19 percent, followed by CNN, at 13 percent, and Facebook, at 8 percent.

All three cable news networks enjoyed record ratings in 2016, with CNN having its best year since 1995 and MSNBC capturing its largest audience ever for the year. 

Fox News finished 2016 as the most-watched basic cable network for the first time in its 20-year history, beating even non-cable stations like ESPN and TBS.
