Hannity apologizes for sharing ‘inaccurate’ story about McCain

Fox’s Sean Hannity has apologized for sharing a story on Twitter that calls Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) a “war criminal.”

“I retweeted an inaccurate article. My apologies to @SenJohnMcCain,” the “Hannity” host wrote on Thursday afternoon.

{mosads}The apology came after a spokeswoman for McCain slammed Hannity for sharing what she called a “fake news” story about the 2008 GOP presidential nominee.

“It is unfortunate that Sean Hannity would attack Senator John McCain over a fake news story. It’s wrong and he should correct the record,” said Julie Tarallo, a spokeswoman for McCain.

Hannity, a Fox News and syndicated radio host for more than 20 years, had shared a link to a story that accuses McCain of being a “globalist war criminal.”

“Wow if true,” Hannity added in the tweet, which he has since deleted.

The website Gateway Pundit published a story that claims, according to WikiLeaks documents and Reddit users, that “McCain illegally asked for campaign donations from the Russian Ambassador.” The document appears to have been released by WikiLeaks in 2008.
