Russia rips ‘odious’ CNN special on Putin
Moscow is trashing a CNN documentary on Russian President Vladimir Putin that aired Monday night, calling it “odious,” “hysterical” and containing “nothing new.”
“This was rather odious material,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told state-run news agency RIA Novosti on Tuesday. “There was nothing new in it.”
The one-hour documentary on Putin and his alleged relationship with President Trump was hosted by Fareed Zakaria and titled “The Most Powerful Man in the World.”
{mosads}Peskov said the production was made “in a hysterical and emotional way, based on opinions that are groundless and often nothing but figments of imagination.”
But Peskov added he appreciated CNN allowing him to comment for the special in an effort to show both sides.
“The fact that they gave us the opportunity to take part in the film and express our position on a number of issues featured in it is positive,” Peskov said.
Zakaria has been one of Trump’s most outspoken critics on CNN, once calling the president a “bullshit artist” on live television.
The documentary included the claims — supported by the U.S. intelligence community — that the Russian government used hackers to intervene in the 2016 election with the purpose of helping elect Trump.
It also stated that the Kremlin may be in possession of compromising materials that can be used against Trump.
