Hannity: NBC on ‘political jihad’ against Trump
Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday accused NBC News of conducting a “political jihad” against President Trump after MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow released two leaked pages of the president’s 2005 tax return.
Moments after Maddow’s on-air revelation, Hannity called her a leader “of the alt-left, propaganda, destroy-Trump-at-all-costs media.”
He said the airing of the president’s tax returns marked “a new low in terms of privacy as we know it here in our country.”
David Cay Johnston, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, discovered the documents, which he said were left in his mailbox. Hannity blamed the “Obama deep-state, shadow government-holdover saboteurs” for leaking the documents.
{mosads}“What we’re seeing now is becoming far worse. Now it’s a clear and present danger that has emerged and it’s threatening our democracy and the will of the people,” Hannity said.
“Because we have people in our government today who are committing felonies, now on a weekly basis. These saboteurs, they’re trying to prevent the president from doing the job that you, the American people, elected him to do.”
The documents contained no damning details, revealing that Trump earned about $150 million in 2005 and paid $38 million in taxes.
Trump broke with modern presidential tradition by refusing to release his tax returns while running for the White House. He insisted he couldn’t release them until after the IRS completed an audit, despite the IRS saying it is still legal to make tax returns under audit public.
Hannity also went after Maddow’s report on Twitter, calling it an #EpicFail.
