Dickerson promoted at CBS
“Face the Nation” anchor John Dickerson has been named chief Washington correspondent for CBS News, according to the network.
CBS News president David Rhodes announced the news Friday in an internal memo obtained by The Hill. It also said that Steve Chaggaris would succeed Dickerson as CBS News political director.
“For the past six years John Dickerson has been our political director, a title he retained even after he took over as anchor of “Face the Nation,” wrote Rhodes, the brother of former Obama deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes.

“We are announcing today that John is moving into the role of chief Washington correspondent while continuing as anchor of FTN.”
Chaggaris has been with CBS News for 18 years, starting out as an associate producer in 1999 and served as senior political editor in 2016.
“These critical appointments for John and Steve will continue to enhance our industry-leading news reporting from the nation’s capital,” concluded Rhodes.
Dickerson was named “Face the Nation” anchor in April 2015 following Bob Schieffer’s retirement. Schieffer had anchored the program since 1991.
