Megyn Kelly started her Sunday night show acknowledging the controversy surrounding her previously taped interview with Infowars’s Alex Jones.

Noting that “some thought we shouldn’t broadcast this interview” with the man who has said the 9/11 terror attacks were an inside job and that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting is a hoax, Kelly defended her decision to give his controversial beliefs a platform.

{mosads}“Here’s the thing, Alex Jones isn’t going away,” Kelly said in her introduction to the report, noting that his sphere of influence has grown since attracting the support of President Trump in 2015.

“I know Trump watches and sees clips and things,” Jones told Kelly, though she said he “downplayed” his influence with the president in his interview with NBC.

“I think my influence on Trump is way, way lower than what [the mainstream media] has said,” Jones told Kelly.

When asked if he’d describe them as friends, he said no and declined to say how many times Trump has called him.
