ABC News’ Jonathan Karl elected WH correspondents chief

The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) has elected ABC News’ Jonathan Karl as its next president. 

Karl, who has been ABC News’ chief White House correspondent since 2012, will serve as the organization’s president for the 2019-2020 term.

Karl beat Dallas Morning News White House correspondent Todd Gillman for the WHCA’s top role, winning 104 of 265 votes. 

He was also appointed to serve a three-year term on the WHCA’s board of directors. Current WHCA President Jeff Mason of Reuters congratulated Karl in a tweet.

The WHCA is a non-profit organization “whose mission is to ensure a strong free press and robust coverage of the presidency by advocating for access by the media to the President, White House events and administration officials.”
