Fox’s Chaffetz: Rosenstein has ‘absolutely zero credibility’ on going after leakers

Former GOP congressman Jason Chaffetz slammed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Monday, saying he has “absolutely zero credibility” on going after leakers.

The commentary comes after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a crackdown on leaks that have plagued the Trump administration on a regular basis since taking office in January.

“[Rod Rosenstein] comes with absolutely zero credibility on this,” said Chaffetz on Fox’s “America’s Newsroom.”

“I asked him if he looked at Hillary Clinton whether she told the truth under oath. He said he needed a request from Congress. Myself and the chairman of the Judiciary Committee to the department of justice. It has never been answered.”

Nearly 300 people who are dealing in classified information in a nonsecure setting, why didn’t they ever close that investigation? They need to answer those questions. Start with that. They come with zero credibility on this issue.”

Sessions announced Friday a governmentwide crackdown on leakers and put the media on notice that it “cannot place lives at risk with impunity.”

“We respect the important role the press plays and we’ll give them respect, but it’s not unlimited,” Sessions said. “They cannot place lives at risk with impunity. We must balance the press’ role with protecting our national security and the lives of those who serve in the intelligence community, the Armed Forces and all law-abiding Americans.”

President Trump praised Sessions on Saturday for cracking down on leaks, a shift from Trump’s recent criticism of the Justice Department head.

“After many years of LEAKS going on in Washington, it is great to see the A.G. taking action! For National Security, the tougher the better!” Trump tweeted Saturday.
