Twitter reacts to Jeffrey Lord CNN firing
Media members from the left and right reacted in decidedly different ways to Jeffrey Lord’s abrupt firing from CNN on Thursday.
The network severed ties with the staunch supporter of President Trump after he tweeted “Sieg Heil!” at liberal activist and Media Matters President Angelo Carusone.
CNN’s justified in their decision. But for tweeps, @realJeffreyLord was mocking fascism. He’s not a nazi, so let’s dispense w/that now.

Media smears Jeffrey Lord for making “Nazi gesture” when he was clearly satirizing the left. https://t.co/Du3w9a7m3l

Most every operative who has worked campaigns in recent years was wondering what Lord was doing on the tube in first place

CNN is truly a farce & a joke. I’ve known Jeff Lord for decades. He’s a thoroughly decent & thoughtful person…. https://t.co/IMPXFDGVii

CNN was good with Jeff Lord’s bullshit for a long time. That they discovered some sort of moral compass today is quite a trick.

I’m going to miss screaming at @realJeffreyLord. It was strangely therapeutic. https://t.co/VdWZ232NCF

“Nazi salutes are indefensible,” a CNN spokesperson said Thursday. “Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network.”
{mosads}The controversial tweet by Lord gained attention after several publications reported it and Carusone took a screenshot and tweeted it at CNN, asking for the network to comment on “on air talent issuing (in serious and non-ironic way) Nazi victory salutes.”
In the opinion piece that eventually led to his ouster from CNN, Lord took issue with a Media Matters campaign to get Fox News’s Sean Hannity fired from his network.
Media Matters urged its supporters to pressure advertisers on Hannity’s program to withdraw their support. Lord argued in his piece that this was a “fascist game” and an effort to end Hannity’s “free speech.”
Lord was signed as a CNN contributor in early 2016 to serve as a Trump supporter. The author and political strategist was often a foil to other segment panel guests on the network, generating headlines and viral clips in the process.
