Matt Lauer, Megyn Kelly and Anderson Cooper among highest-paid news hosts

NBC’s Matt Lauer is the highest-paid host in broadcast news, according to Variety.

The “Today Show” host has an annual salary of $25 million per year.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper clocks in as the highest-paid anchor or host in cable news, earning $12 million.

Coming in second in the broadcast news category are NBC’s Megyn Kelly and ABC’s Robin Roberts as the second and third highest-paced broadcast news hosts.

Kelly is preparing for the Sept. 25 launch of “Megyn Kelly Today,” which will serve as the third hour of Lauer’s “Today Show.”

Roberts, a former ESPN anchor, has been co-anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America” since 2005.

Her co-anchor, George Stephanopoulos, places fourth on Variety’s list, earning $15 million per year. The former senior adviser to President Clinton also anchors the ABC Sunday morning political affairs program, “This Week.”

No other cable news hosts made the top 20 in the category of “Reality/News/Host.”

Overall, syndicated talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, host of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” finished No. 1, earning $50 million per year.

Judy Sheindlin, the presiding judge on the nationally syndicated “Judge Judy,” was second overall, taking home $47 million annually.

Other notables include ABC’s Kelly Ripa at $22 million per year — fifth place overall — CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel at $15 million per year — making it a tie for ninth — and Alec Baldwin on ABC’s “Match Game” at $3 million.
