Fox News host urges Trump to drop ‘unseemly’ feud with McConnell
Fox News host Neil Cavuto on Wednesday offered President Trump multiple pieces of advice, urging him to end his “unseemly fight” with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
“It’s especially not good for you, sir. And dragging out this unseemly fight in public is going to come back to haunt you,” Cavuto told Trump on air during his show, “Your World With Neil Cavuto.”
Cavuto argued that McConnell is on Trump’s side and that he “made possible your biggest achievement,” referring to the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.
“Don’t forget the strings he pulled to make it happen,” Cavuto added.
{mosads}The Fox host’s comments follow reports that it has been weeks since Trump and McConnell have spoken and that the Senate Majority Leader has quietly said he is uncertain as to whether Trump can rebound from his string of controversies.
“He is better than that,” Cavuto said, referencing Trump’s “nasty tweet” about McConnell. Trump has on more than one occasion criticized McConnell for the Senate’s failure to repeal and replace ObamaCare.
“Mr. President, actually, you’re better than that. The two of you are very different, but you share goals that are very similar,” Cavuto said. “You might not like how Washington works, but this is the only Washington you got.”
Cavuto argued that “loyalty works both ways” and that Trump’s criticism of GOP officials and that “pointing the figure at your team only invites them to point a very different finger at you.”
“Mitch McConnell deserves better,” he said. “And actually, my president, so do you. So do all of us.”
