CNN’s Powers: Trump thinks daughter Ivanka is ‘his prized possession’

CNN’s Kirsten Powers said Wednesday night that President Trump believes his daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump “isn’t that impressive to people” and is treated as a “prized possession” by her father.

The commentary from the USA Today columnist and political analyst came during a discussion that focused on the president’s eldest daughter attending meetings with him at the White House.

“She’s been this kind of prop and instrument for him most of her life,” anchor Anderson Cooper said, adding that he thinks Republicans wouldn’t think it was normal if Chelsea Clinton attended meetings with Hillary Clinton if she had won the White House.

“Well I don’t think it is normal,” Powers, a former Fox News contributor, said.

{mosads}“I don’t know if he realizes that this isn’t that impressive to people. I think he thinks Ivanka is sort of his prized possession and that everybody is going to be so blown away because she shows up, but nobody cares,” she said before mocking an Ivanka Trump reception by lawmakers.

“Oh my gosh, Ivanka’s here! This is so amazing!”

“This is the president of the United States,” Powers added. “They don’t need the daughter coming in in the middle of the meeting.”

GOP leaders on Capitol Hill were “visibly annoyed” that Ivanka Trump joined an Oval Office meeting to “say hello” during their Wednesday meeting with President Trump on a spending bill, according to reporters who spoke with a congressional aide of one lawmaker in attendance.

The president struck a surprise deal with Democratic leaders during the meeting on a three-month plan to keep the government running while raising its borrowing limit.
