Christie in talks to join CNN or MSNBC after leaving office

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) could launch a career as a political pundit after he leaves office in January 2018, according to a new report.

CNN reported Friday that the New Jersey Republican is in talks with CNN and MSNBC for a contributor gig at one of the networks. Christie is not currently considering Fox News.

“Yes. They are talking about a possible deal,” a source at NBC said. CNN declined to comment on its own report.

Christie has been eyeing possible media jobs after his final term as governor nears an end. Previously, there was speculation Christie would take a sports talk radio hosting position with New York-market WFAN, but the governor ruled that out in July.

{mosads}”After considering the other options that I have been presented with for post-gubernatorial employment, I declined their request to do additional shows,” Christie said last month.

“I made station executives aware that while I would be happy to continue to fill in for [WFAN morning show co-host] Boomer Esiason when asked and when available, that they should no longer consider me as a candidate interested in any job at WFAN when I leave the Governorship. I made that clear to them prior to leaving for my family vacation two weeks ago.”

Christie’s spokesman told CNN that the governor has not made any public plans for his post-political life.

We’re “not going to discuss [Christie’s] future plans,” a spokesman said Friday. “He has not discussed publicly what he plans or wants to do.”

Christie’s last term as governor has seen his approval rating drop to record lows. In April, a poll found that Christie was the least-popular governor in the country, with just a 25 percent approval rating.

Those numbers dropped further in July after pictures emerged of Christie and his family enjoying the sun on a closed public beach in New Jersey during a government shutdown.
