Bannon to appear at Berkeley ‘Free Speech Week’ with Yiannopoulos, Coulter

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon will join conservative firebrands Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter and more than a dozen speakers at “Free Speech Week” on the University of California, Berkeley campus later this month.

The four-day event, starting Sept. 24, is likely to draw huge protests and ample media attention. It is being organized by a conservative group called The Berkeley Patriot.

“Mr. Bannon will deliver short remarks on the final day of Free Speech Week,” reads a Tuesday press release.

{mosads}UC-Berkeley was the scene of violent protests earlier this year.

In February, a campuswide lockdown was issued after protests broke out against Yiannopoulos, who was scheduled to speak at the school.

The speaking event was canceled as university police urged students to shelter in place and avoid the protest area.

In August, pepper spray and smoke bombs disrupted a protest in Berkeley when violence broke out between groups of protesters resulting in 14 arrests.

UC-Berkeley is also tightening campus security ahead of a speech scheduled for Thursday by former Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Bannon resigned from his White House position last month and immediately returned to Brietbart News to serve as its executive chairman.

A group of about 15 protesters demonstrated before his speech in Hong Kong on Tuesday, shouting phrases including “No Bannon, no racism” and holding up a black banner that said “Nazis are not welcome here,” Reuters reported.

Yiannopoulos revealed recently that he met with Bannon, but wouldn’t elaborate on what was on the agenda.

“So I spent some time with Steve. I was lucky enough to see him this week,” Yiannopoulos said last Friday in an interview with Brietbart editor-in-chief Alex Marlow on the site’s Sirius XM channel.

“Did you break news there?” Marlow asked. “Wow. Milo and Steve, meeting of the minds. Alright, interesting.”

“Uncle Steve,” Yiannopoulos replied, adding, “I’m the founding member and life president of the Steve Bannon fan club.”
