Megyn Kelly: NFL players have ‘every right to take a knee’

NBC’s Megyn Kelly on Tuesday defended the right of NFL players to kneel during the national anthem.

Asked by an audience member during her morning show if she would take a knee during the national anthem, Kelly said she is a “lover” of the First Amendment.

“And I think, in a way, this whole situation underscores some of the beauty of our country,” she said.

“Because those players have every right to take a knee. And those who object to it have every right to say they object.”

{mosads}Kelly added: “The bedrock of the First Amendment is the answer to speech we do not like is not less speech. It’s more speech. So, I just sort of think, Go USA.”

President Trump sparked an uproar last week after he attacked NFL players who kneel during the national anthem.

The president later doubled down on his criticism, saying kneeling isn’t an issue of race, but rather about respect for the country and its flag.

On Tuesday, he called for the NFL to set a rule barring players from kneeling during the national anthem.

Coaches and players across the country have spoken out against Trump’s comments.
