Kasie Hunt highlights MSNBC’s new Sunday politics lineup

NBC News’s Capitol Hill correspondent Kasie Hunt has landed her own Sunday night show on MSNBC as the cable news network continues to expand its weekend programming.

“Kasie DC” will debut Sunday at 7 p.m.

The two-hour program will feature Hunt “interviewing newsmakers and previewing Monday’s key headlines to help viewers jump start the week ahead,” according to a network release.

Hunt received praise from friends and colleagues in the business, including former MSNBC host Greta Van Susteren.

In the past, MSNBC has primarily featured its prison documentary series, “Lockup,” on most weekend nights.

The network also announced it is expanding “MSNBC Live” to Sunday. “Morning Joe First Look” co-anchor Yasmin Vossoughian will host the show at 4 p.m., and NBC News foreign correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin will take over for the 5 p.m. slot.

The move comes as all the major cable news networks have beefed up original programming on weekends, with most of the programs recently added having a political focus.

Fox News awarded former “O’Reilly Factor” producer and man-on-the-street interviewer Jesse Watters with a prime-time Saturday show beginning January and launched “The Next Revolution” with Steve Hilton on Sunday nights in June.

CNN has opted for taped, documentary-style programming via Anthony Bourdain’s award-winning “Parts Unknown” and Lisa Ling’s “This is Life.”
