Kathy Griffin: Anderson Cooper a ‘spineless heiress’
Kathy Griffin mocked her former CNN New Year’s Eve co-host Anderson Cooper in a recent interview, calling him a “spineless heiress.”
Griffin explained to the Daily Beast that the term applies to a quote “from my gays” about Cooper, who is gay and is a member of the wealthy Vanderbilt family.
The jab comes five months after the provocative comedienne was relieved of her New Year’s Eve duties by CNN in the wake of a photo shoot that included her holding up a severed, bloody prop head that strongly resembled President Trump.
The 56-year-old Griffin had co-hosted CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage with Cooper for the previous decade, attracting strong ratings.
The longtime CNN anchor slammed Griffin in May after the severed head photo was quickly criticized and grabbed substantial media attention.

“For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate,” Cooper wrote on Twitter to his 9.68 million followers.
Griffin was fired by CNN shortly thereafter.
She has since been replaced by Bravo’s Andy Cohen, a friend and comedy show partner of Cooper’s.
