Trevor Noah: GOP made sexual assault a partisan issue

Trevor Noah said Monday the GOP has made sexual assault a partisan issue.

Republican politics can be divided into two eras: “Before the grab and after the grab,” Noah said during his late-night show, referencing the “Access Hollywood” tape that surfaced last year in which President Trump is heard making lewd comments about women.

“Because once they made sexual assault seem like a partisan issue, it enabled all of their party members to use politics as a shield for their sex crimes,” Noah said.

{mosads}He referenced multiple people in Hollywood who have faced sexual misconduct allegations.

“Harvey Weinstein, out. Kevin Spacey, man, we loved your show, but out,” he said. “But if you’re a Republican politician, then the real victim of your sexual assaults, is you.”

Noah joked that the “real criminals” are the fake news. He continued to mock the excuses Moore defenders have given to defend the GOP candidate, including that “time heals all allegations.”

Moore is facing growing pressure to step aside in the Alabama Senate race in the aftermath of sexual misconduct allegations against him.

The Washington Post reported last week that a woman accused Moore of initiating a sexual encounter with her when she as 14 and he was 32. Other women quoted in the story said Moore pursued romantic relationships with them around the same time period when they were teenagers.

Another woman came forward on Monday and accused Moore of sexually assaulting her when she was a teenager.

Moore has denied the allegations and indicated he plans to remain in the race.

On Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called for Moore to step aside in the race and said he believed the women who accused him of sexual misconduct.
