Sally Kohn: Franken must go

Sally Kohn, a progressive contributor to CNN, on Monday called for Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) to leave the Senate in the wake of sexual misconduct accusations.

“Time for Al Franken to go,” Kohn wrote on Twitter after CNN reported on new allegations.

Time for Al Franken to go.

Kohn’s tweet came the morning CNN published a story in which a woman said Franken grabbed her rear end during a 2010 photo-op. Franken was a member of the Senate at that time.

The senator told CNN that while he does not recall the photo-op, he “feel[s] badly” that the woman felt “disrespected.”

A spokesman for Franken previously said the Minnesota lawmaker would not resign after radio anchor Leeann Tweeden said that he groped and kissed her without her consent when the two were on a USO tour in 2006. Tweeden provided a photo of Franken grabbing her breasts over her flak jacket as she slept.

Tweeden last week said she accepted Franken’s apology.  

The senator has also called for an ethics investigation into himself.

The allegations against Franken come amidst a shifting national conversation on the issue of sexual misconduct, which has gained traction since multiple women revealed allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against film producer Harvey Weinstein.
