Tapper slams Trump over ‘indecent’ attack on Scarborough

CNN anchor Jake Tapper sharply criticized President Trump on Wednesday after the president attacked MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Twitter by bringing up the 2001 death of an intern in the then-lawmaker’s office.

Tapper called the president’s attacks “indecent” Wednesday after Trump suggested police should “investigate” the death of Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old intern who was found dead in Scarborough’s congressional office in 2001.

“So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the “unsolved mystery” that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!” Trump tweeted.

Both police and a medical examiner determined in 2001 that Klausutis suffered from a heart problem that caused her to faint. Investigators believe she hit her head when she fell, causing her death.

Scarborough was never a suspect in the investigation.

Scarborough has fended off critics before who have sought to use Klausutis’s death against him. In 2010, Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas was banned from MSNBC after a Twitter feud with Scarborough in which he repeatedly brought up the incident.

The MSNBC host of “Morning Joe” responded to the president Wednesday by claiming Trump is “not well.”

“Looks like I picked a good day to stop responding to Trump’s bizarre tweets,” Scarborough tweeted. “He is not well.”
