Kimmel labels Trump dishonest media awards the ‘Stupid People’s Choice Awards’

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday mocked President Trump for his plans to announce “THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR.”

“Sounds like somebody’s been in the White House laundry room eating Tide pods again because the president of the United States is — starting his own awards show for the media,” Kimmel said during his ABC show.

“The Stupid People’s Choice Awards are what they’re calling it.”

{mosads}Kimmel added that the awards will present a “real dilemma” for the president.

“On one hand, you know, he loves awards and trophies,” he said. “But will he be physically able to give a trophy to someone other than himself? I don’t think so.”

Trump, who often rails against the media, tweeted earlier this week about the media awards.

“I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock,” he tweeted.

“Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!”

Trump’s announcement came after he previously asked his supporters to help him award a “Fake News Trophy.”

“Americans are sick and tired of being lied to, insulted, and treated with outright condescension,” an email to Trump’s supporters said. “That’s why President Trump is crowning the 2017 KING OF FAKE NEWS before the end of the year.

“There’s no point in pretending that some journalists are anything more than peddlers of falsehoods and liberal propaganda,” the email continues.

The Trump campaign’s email links to a poll where participants can vote on three media stories as “fake,” “faker” or “fakest” news.

In November, Trump suggested there should be a contest among news networks — excluding Fox News — for the “Fake News Trophy.” 

Trump often refers to certain networks or negative reporting as “fake news” and accuses the media of biased coverage of him and his administration.
