Scarborough: Conspiracy theories make America less safe

Joe Scarborough on Thursday blasted Republican lawmakers who are voicing concern about political bias at the highest levels of the FBI, claiming their efforts to protect President Trump will ultimately hurt the agency that is responsible for protecting American lives.

“When these conspiracy theories are spread for political reasons — and solely political reasons — to protect the president who is not worth your protection with your lies, you are only making it more difficult for our law enforcement officers to protect your family and mine against Islamic terrorism and homegrown terrorism that you supposedly fear so much,” said Scarborough, co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Conservative lawmakers across several committees have expressed worry about the contents of the text messages exchanged between FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page, in which they expressed disparaging remarks about President Trump, in addition to other political figures of both parties.

Special counsel Robert Mueller dismissed the two from his Russia probe after news of their text messages surfaced.

Despite their dismissal, Republicans seized on their involvement in the Russia probe as well as their prior involvement in the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email server.

GOP lawmakers are further infuriated by the fact that a tranche of messages between the two FBI officials is missing from FBI records.

Some lawmakers have described the messages as revealing possible signs of political bias in the FBI that led to the Russia investigation being kicked into high gear.

Scarborough suggested the lawmakers are overreaching with their calls of possible FBI abuse, stating that they are distracting the agency from carrying out their job of protecting the U.S.

“So just stop it. Get out of their way. Let them do their jobs and let the chips fall where they may. If Mueller overreaches, we will be the first to say so. The press will be the first to say so. Just stop with your conspiracy theories because you are making America less safe,” he continued.
