John Oliver: This is the country of Trump and the country of people ‘profoundly embarrassed by him’
Late-night host John Oliver called for Americans to remember that President Trump does not represent America.
“As an immigrant who has fallen in love with this country, for what it’s worth, please allow me to speak to the rest of the world in America’s defense,” Oliver said.
“Donald Trump does not represent America — well, to be completely honest, he does reflect it a bit. But the point is America is not one thing; it’s a beautiful mess of contradictions where good and bad are mixed together.”

He said that sometimes, what is great and terrible about America is “just impossible to separate.”
“Please, world, for the next three, or seven or somehow 11 years, please remember this is the country of Donald Trump, yes, but it’s also the country of people profoundly embarrassed by him,” Oliver said.
“And the country that brought you inflatable dinosaur costumes and f—— Batman beds.”
Oliver is a frequent critic of the president.
His comments come after Trump over the weekend vented his anger with the Russia investigation with a remarkable burst of tweets sent from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
He declared that “they are laughing their asses off in Moscow” over the ongoing probe and claimed he never denied the Russian interference took place.
