Geraldo on Bolton: It’s about time Trump hired ‘a man with a mustache’

Fox News analyst Geraldo Rivera praised President Trump on Fox News on Friday for bringing a “a man with a mustache” to his administration by hiring John Bolton as national security adviser.

But Rivera, who has a famous mustache of his own, also criticized Bolton as a cheerleader “for the Iraq invasion in 2003, which ended disastrously.” Trump has reportedly disapproved of Bolton’s mustache in the past.

{mosads}”The president of the United States made another change in his Cabinet. He fired H.R. McMaster and he has hired as the new National Security Council chief that man, John Bolton, who just like you, Geraldo, has a big mustache,” noted “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy.

“I was going to say, Steve, it’s about time the administration has brought to its core a man with a mustache,” joked Rivera. “I was going to complain bitterly about it. I was as close as you get to a mustachioed adviser to the president.

“You know, Bolton is a hard-liner,” he continued. “We know the ambassador very well. He was one of the cheerleaders for the Iraq invasion in 2003, which ended disastrously. Unlike me, who feels very guilty of my support for that invasion back in those days.”

“At that time it made sense,” argued Doocy.

“Well, we like to think so,” replied Rivera. “The ambassador is unapologetic about it. He still believes it was a good idea. I think it disrupted the entire Mid-East and we’re still paying the piper for that.”

Bolton had been a Fox News contributor since 2007.

Prior to television, he held several top diplomatic positions in President George W. Bush’s administration, including under secretary of State for arms control and international security before being named U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in 2005. He was also foreign policy adviser to Mitt Romney (R) during his 2012 presidential run.
During a pre-scheduled interview Thursday night on “The Story” with Martha MacCallum, Bolton expressed surprise when hearing the news of his selection.

“I think I still am a Fox News contributor,” an amused Bolton said to MacCallum at the start of the interview.

“No,” MacCallum said. “You’re not.”

Last week, Trump named longtime CNBC contributor and former Reagan budget official Larry Kudlow as his senior economic adviser.
