AP corrects earlier report that NRA banned guns at Pence speech

The Associated Press issued a correction on Monday afternoon after claiming that the National Rifle Association (NRA) had banned guns in the audience during Vice President Pence’s Friday speech at its annual meeting

The AP led to several outlets echoing the report before the correction was made, which clarified that the Secret Service had in fact made the call.

AP has deleted a tweet that incorrectly said the NRA had banned guns during Trump and Pence speeches at its annual meeting. The ban was put in place by the Secret Service. A corrected tweet is coming.

{mosads}The NRA also issued a statement Monday, stating the Secret Service “will be responsible for event security” during Pence’s speech. 

“As a result, firearms and firearm accessories, knives or weapons of any kind will be prohibited in the forum prior to and during attendance,” the NRA said in a statement.

The NRA Leadership Conference will take place in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center from Friday to Sunday.

It will mark the 147th year the NRA has held the conference. More than 80,000 people are expected to attend.
