#Resistance Twitter delights in Trump’s canceled North Korean summit
Opponents of President Trump on Twitter mocked the White House’s Thursday announcement that it is scrapping a planned summit with North Korea leader Kim Jong Un, with the president citing “tremendous anger and open hostility” toward the U.S.
“I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting,” Trump wrote in a letter to Kim.
{mosads}The decision came one day after a North Korean official said the nation was ready to inflict an “appalling tragedy” on the U.S., dismissing Vice President Pence as a “political dummy.”
Hashtags including #Nobel, #NorthKoreaSummit and #KimJongUn quickly jumped to the list of trending topics on the popular social media site, with much of the derision aimed at Trump, particularly as it pertained to prospects of the former reality TV star winning a Nobel Peace Prize, which had been floated by multiple conservative lawmakers.
So we are foregoing a chance at a historic resolution to a nuclear crisis because we object to someone we know being called a “political dummy”? Are you kidding me? So much for that self-appointed Nobel peace prize. #NoLeadership #Pathetic #Basta

Give him the Nobel Participation Prize.https://t.co/thd8kKxcJs

The cancellation of the North Koran summit is the cherry on the Trump sundae of failures. Trump was so desperate for a Nobel prize because Obama has one that he jumped at meeting Kim Jong Un with no preparation. Trump is the laughing stock of the world

Breaking news: Trump cancels meeting with North Korea. Nobel committee says he still might get the batshit crazy award.

It’s all good and fun to mock those who were already bestowing the Nobel to Trump. But we also just took a major step closer to a nuclear conflict.

I guess Trump is going to have to hope that he will get the Nobel prize for literature now

This North Korea fiasco shows how much Trump gets graded on a curve. He accomplished nothing. The process was obviously flawed. But pundits rushed to prematurely praise him to balance out all the well-deserved criticism that came before.

Trump got no Nobel Prize but Kim got U.S. commemorative coin calling him Supreme Leader.
This is called #Winning

I heard this letter from Trump to Kim Jong Un being read by Pompeo, while I was driving. I have to say the words that stuck out: “wonderful,” “beautiful”- before the threat to blow North Korea to pieces – it sounded like a scorned lover sending a break-up letter. pic.twitter.com/eIhek1WF2K

Many Twitter users in particular took issue with a commemorative coin the White House released earlier this week to mark the talks. As of Thursday morning, the coins were still on sale at the White House gift shop’s website for $85.
So what will White House do with all those commemorative coins made to celebrate the June 12th summit between @realDonaldTrump and the Supreme Leader?

BUT WE MADE COINS https://t.co/4ORAQgnUrK

The real summit was the coins we minted along the way.

good thing no one made like a commemorative coin or anything https://t.co/tBOQFRPOwW

Kim and Trump had been set to meet on June 12 in Singapore per a general agreement made back in March following months of verbal salvos that included Trump referring to Kim as “Little Rocket Man” and North Korea calling Trump a “dotard” as tensions between the two countries escalated over Pyongyang’s nuclear program.
“You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used,” Trump wrote to Kim, echoing comments from last year when North Korea was at the height of its missile testing program.
“They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening … and as I said they will be met with fire, fury and, frankly, power, the likes of which this world has never seen before,” the president said on Aug. 8.
