Sara Gilbert: Roseanne’s comments about Valerie Jarrett ‘abhorrent’

“Roseanne” star Sara Gilbert condemned Roseanne Barr’s comment about former Obama White House adviser Valerie Jarrett on Tuesday, calling it “abhorrent.”

“Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least,” Gilbert, who plays Darlene Conner on “Roseanne,” wrote in a tweet. {mosads}

“This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member,” she added in a second tweet.

Gilbert’s comments come after Barr faced widespread backlash for writing in a since-deleted tweet Tuesday that Jarrett was a child of the Islamist organization the Muslim Brotherhood and the movie “Planet of the Apes.”

The tweet was deemed racist by many, and led to an outpouring of criticism.

Wanda Sykes, who serves as a consulting producer on the ABC comedy’s reboot, said she was leaving the show over the comment.

ABC Entertainment later announced that it was canceling the show.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in a statement.
