CNN contrasts Fox personalities’ praise for Trump-Kim summit with past criticism of Obama

CNN on Wednesday aired footage contrasting the response from Fox News personalities who praised President Trump’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and network figures who slammed then-President Obama for floating a similar idea.

CNN’s “New Day” played a montage of old clips showing a number of Fox News hosts and Republican politicians ripping Obama on the network for saying during the 2008 presidential race that he’d meet with some of the United States’ “enemies.”

Among other clips, a Fox News analyst says Obama is “bowing” to dictators.

{mosads}In contrast, CNN aired footage of Fox News host Sean Hannity praising Trump’s North Korea summit, saying it exceeded expectations.

It also showed Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano stating that Trump looked “more presidential this morning than I have ever seen him look” and host Laura Ingraham saying on her show that “it is a great time to be an American.”

“Who else could’ve gotten us to this point? This is an amazing first step,” Ingraham said.

CNN host Alisyn Camerota, who worked for Fox News for 16 years, capped the clip by asking, “Do they think videotape doesn’t exist?”

She noted that “hypocrisy” exists on both sides of the aisle.

GOP lawmakers and allies of Trump in media have taken heat from multiple networks over their stance on the North Korea summit.

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” mocked Hannity on Tuesday over his support of Trump’s meeting with Kim and past critiques of Obama pushing to normalize relations with Cuba.

In addition, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Tuesday night pressed Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.), someone who praised Trump for his summit with Kim, about his past criticism of Obama for meeting with Cuban leader Raúl Castro in 2015.

After the summit with Kim this week, Trump announced that the U.S. would halt military exercises with South Korea while negotiations take place. He added that the U.S. would provide North Korea with unspecified security guarantees in exchange for denuclearization.
