NBC News intelligence and national security reporter Ken Dilanian on Monday dismissed The Daily Caller as “Trump’s pet media” after one of its reporters was called on at a joint press conference with President Trump and the prime minister of Italy.
“What was I saying earlier about Trump’s pet media. He actually called on the Daily Caller. Next up: Sputnik,” Dilanian wrote on Twitter on Monday after Daily Caller White House correspondent Saagar Enjeti asked Trump about a possible government shutdown if $25 billion isn’t provided by Congress for a wall along the southern border.
Enjeti shrugged off the criticism on Twitter after the conference.{mosads}
“Just left the joint press conference with @realDonaldTrump and the PM of Italy. Let me guess, the internet is mad I got a question,” Enjeti wrote.
Following his tweet, Dilanian faced blowback from other journalists on social media later Monday afternoon, with some defending Enjeti’s question.
Dilanian also retweeted several media members last week after CNN’s Kaitlan Collins was barred from attending a Rose Garden event for asking what was described by the White House as “inappropriate” questions during an Oval Office meeting. Collins once worked for The Daily Caller.
