‘The View’ hosts accuse Hillary Clinton of ‘whataboutism’ on Lewinsky

“The View” co-host Joy Behar on Monday accused Hillary Clinton of “whataboutism” over her response to a question regarding her husband’s affair with then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

The former first lady and Democratic presidential nominee said during an appearance on “CBS Sunday Morning” that then-President Clinton should “absolutely not” have resigned over his affair with Lewinsky because “she was an adult.”

{mosads}In the same interview, the former secretary of State also asked why there is no investigation into the claims of sexual misconduct against President Trump.

“Let me ask you this: Where is the investigation of the current incumbent?” Clinton asked.

Behar ripped Clinton for her answer on Monday’s edition of the roundtable opinion show.

“What she just did is exactly what Republicans do: changed the subject,” Behar argued. “And that’s why we never get anywhere in the discourse.”

“You know you have a bad argument when your immediate response is ‘Well, they were worse,’” co-host Abby Huntsman added.

“Whataboutism, they call it,” Behar noted.

“This highlights to me, I think, why some people struggled to vote for her, because you can’t have it both ways in her position,” Huntsman continued. “You can’t put yourself on a pedestal and be a leader for the feminist movement and at the same time refuse to acknowledge the reality that you’ve lived with for all these years and stand by your husband.”

Earlier Monday, David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to President Obama, also criticized Clinton for the comments.

“Just guessing this isn’t the story Democratic candidates were looking for in the homestretch of the midterms,” Axelrod tweeted while linking to a story in The New York Daily News regarding Clinton’s dismissal of claims of sexual misconduct against her husband.
