Mary Kissel expected to join State Department

Wall Street Journal editorial board member and Fox News contributor Mary Kissel is expected to join the Trump State Department, according to a source familiar with the matter.

It is not known what specific position Kissel will take at State, though it’s possible she could be headed to the press department, where Heather Nauert has been doing double duty as spokeswoman and acting under secretary for public diplomacy and public affairs.

{mosads}Kissel, a 41-year-old Harvard and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies graduate, served as a foreign correspondent for the Journal, reporting from Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Australia. She is also a weekly co-host of the John Batchelor Show, a nationally syndicated radio talk show.

A Fox News spokesperson confirmed to The Hill that she is no longer a contributor.

Multiple requests to Kissel for comment were not returned.

The State Department declined comment, citing a policy not to comment on personnel matters.

The Hill is awaiting comment from the Wall Street Journal.

Nauert has been mentioned in published reports as a contender to succeed Nikki Haley as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Haley is leaving that position at the end of the year.

Nauert is a former anchor and host on Fox News and also previous served as a correspondent at ABC News. She has earned high marks from Trump and others for her work at State.
