Ben Shapiro slams Trump for ‘enemy of the people’ tweet, says this ‘has to stop’

Conservative writer Ben Shapiro on Monday slammed President Trump for describing some members of the media as the “enemy of the people.”

“This ‘enemy of the people’ stuff has to stop, but it won’t,” Shapiro tweeted.

Earlier in the day the president criticized what he called the “Fake News Media,” referring to them as the “true Enemy of the People.”

“Fake News Must End!” he said in a follow-up tweet.

{mosads}The president has repeatedly referred to some news outlets as “Fake News,” which he has called the “enemy of the people.”

Shapiro has frequently criticized the media for its treatment of Trump and the GOP, but he has also condemned the president’s use of the phrase “enemy of the people.”

Maggie Haberman, The New York Time’s White House correspondent, also hit back against Trump’s tweet.

Conservatives’ trust in the media has been declining for years. After general confidence in the media hit a record low in 2016, Republican’s trust in news outlets has held at 14 percent, according to Gallup. Meanwhile, Democrats’ confidence in the media has risen to a 20-year high of 72 percent.
