Brzezinski: ‘I suspect’ Dems will nominate woman in 2020, ‘past time’ to elect female president
MSNBC co-host Mika Brzezinski said Tuesday that she expects a woman to be the 2020 Democratic Party nominee for president, adding that it was “far past time” for America to elect its first female president.
Reacting to Monday’s entrance of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) into the contention for the party’s nomination, Brzezinski said on Tuesday’s “Morning Joe” that the strongest candidates so far in the Democratic field were all women.
{mosads}”With the latest entry in the 2020 Democratic sweepstakes by Kamala Harris, the early pace for the Democratic nomination for president is being set by women,” Brzezinski said. “In addition to Harris, her fellow Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York [and] Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts have also made their own audacious move towards history.”
“Whether a woman ultimately becomes the Democratic nominee or not, and I suspect one will, these women … will set the pace and set the agenda and tap into the grass-roots support from women and men to repudiate Donald Trump, change the direction of this country and show young women across America what it means to know their value,” she added.
“It is past time that America finally elects a woman as president and joins the ranks of our western allies and civilized countries around the world.”

Brzezinski, along with her husband and co-host Joe Scarborough, is a frequent and vocal critic of the president and last year called for Trump to be ousted by his advisers via the 25th Amendment, declaring him “not fit to lead” and capable of doing “something crazy in five minutes, one hour, tonight or tomorrow.”
In December, she was criticized by members of the administration, including Trump himself, for a comment about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that was considered by many to be homophobic.
