Ingraham slams Democratic Party for embracing ‘socialism’
Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Thursday said the Democratic Party has lurched to the left and embraced socialism.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the annual conservative convention near Washington, D.C., Ingraham said Democrats are increasingly looking to socialism to fight President Trump’s agenda.
{mosads}“The Democrat Party of today responds to peace and prosperity … with socialism. They put their hopes in larger government. They put their hopes in dangling freebees to a new generation,” she said.
“It’s basically a power grab by pick-pockets who think they know better how to spend your money than you do. They think you’re too stupid to make your own decisions, they’re smarter, they’ll do it better than you do,” she said.
Ingraham painted the current political climate as a fight between conservatives and socialist liberals, claiming constitutional rights are at risk.
“We have to reject the false promise of socialism. All the giveaways never add up. Don’t let them take your freedom, don’t let them frighten you from speaking your mind. They have their truths and their falsehoods. We have eternal truths that will never die,” she said. “Your constitutional rights will be lost if you don’t stand to defend them. We have the right to be left alone from an ever-intrusive government.”
Socialism has been under debate in recent weeks since President Trump highlighted it during his State of the Union address in January. Conservatives Thursday at CPAC slammed policies such as the Green New Deal, which proposes funding for green jobs as a way to tackle climate change and inequality, and various tax plans to boost levies on the wealthy as evidence that the Democratic Party is lurching to the left.
