SNL spoofs Feinstein meeting with youth climate change activists in unaired sketch
“Saturday Night Live” roasted Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) in an unaired sketch, spoofing her recent interaction with young climate change activists who urged her to support the “Green New Deal.”
The sketch, which was cut from Saturday’s show due to time constraints, features SNL’s Cecily Strong playing Feinstein and mocking the children for supporting the deal, calling it “not very realistic.”
{mosads}The children then push back, arguing that the planet is dying, to which Strong responds, “you’re going to tell me how to do my job?”
“I don’t come into your first-grade classroom and knock the Elmer’s glue out of your mouth, do I?” Strong asks the now-somber schoolchildren. “So why don’t you stay in your lane and step the f— off.”
Strong then asked for repeated “do-overs” after ripping the kids in one scene after another after they bring up their many concerns.
The sketch comes after dozens of youth climate activists approached Feinstein in her Senate office and urged her to support the Green New Deal championed by freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).
Feinstein received criticism for what many considered a harsh rebuke when she told the kids they had a “my way or the highway” attitude.
“You know what’s interesting about this group is that I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I know what I’m doing,” she said at the time in an edited clip posted on Twitter. “You come in here and you say, ‘it has to be my way or the highway.’ I don’t respond to that.”
