‘Fox & Friends’ host Kilmeade knocks Trump for attacking McCain: ‘Makes absolutely no sense’

“Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade on Thursday hit President Trump for his recent attacks on the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Kilmeade said that Trump the day before turned his focus away at an Ohio plant from touching on the accomplishments he has already made in office to instead “inexplicably” going after McCain, who died last year of brain cancer.

“The problem is he swapped his own message by going after George Conway and in that speech inexplicably segueing to go after John McCain,” Kilmeade said Thursday morning, referring to the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway. “It makes absolutely no sense.”

{mosads}While speaking at a tank factory in Lima, Ohio, on Wednesday, Trump doubled down his recent comments against McCain, saying he gave the former GOP presidential nominee “the kind of funeral that he wanted, which as president I had to approve. I don’t care about this. I didn’t get ‘thank you.’”

His comments were widely criticized, and a number of Republican lawmakers quickly came to defend McCain.

Kilmeade pointed to Trump and McCain’s rivalry during the late lawmaker’s final years in the Senate, most notably voting against the repeal of the Affordable Care Act during a dramatic moment on the Senate floor.

But Kilmeade said McCain had rivalries with several other politicians and presidents as well, again lamenting that Trump’s attacks on McCain took away from his noteworthy successes such as job creation and a strong economy.

Trump has a penchant for watching Fox News, specifically “Fox & Friends,” the network’s popular morning program.

Trump frequently tweets out quotes from “Fox & Friends” segments, often shortly after they run.
