Moore will not return to CNN after withdrawing from Fed consideration

Stephen Moore will not reprise his role as a contributor at CNN after he withdrew from consideration for the Federal Reserve Board

“Stephen Moore will not be returning as a contributor,” a CNN spokesperson confirmed in a statement to The Hill.

{mosads}Moore, a conservative economic commentator, withdrew his name from consideration after media outlets, including CNN, unearthed several controversial comments he had made in columns and other mediums, mainly about women.

For example, he wrote there should be no female referees in male professional sports and that it would be “disruptive” to a family if a wife earned more money than her husband.

The comments drew the ire of several Senate Republicans, with Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) slamming his “ridiculous” commentary and Sen. Lindsey Graham calling his potential nomination “problematic.”

Democrats also hammered Moore over his partisan leanings, harsh rebukes of the current Fed regime and what detractors considered dubious and inconsistent economic analyses.

He was seen by Democrats as a loyalist of President Trump who could threaten the independence of the Fed board by advocating for the administration’s economic policies. Moore worked on Trump’s 2016 campaign

Moore told Trump in a letter Thursday that “the unrelenting attacks on my character have become untenable for me and my family and three more months of this would be too hard on us.”

“I will continue to be a loud economic voice advocating for your policies, which will keep us on a prosperous path of 3 to 4 percent growth with rising wages and low inflation for as far as the eye can see,” he added. “I am always at your disposal.”

Moore joined CNN in 2017 and left the network in March.
