George Conway knocks NYT for ‘projecting normality’ on Trump

Conservative legal commentator George Conway blasted The New York Times on Wednesday for the framing of a piece analyzing the political “strategy” of former President Trump at court appearances during his bid for the White House in 2024.

“Our reporter Jonathan Swan analyzes Donald Trump’s campaign strategy in the courtroom,” the Times wrote in social media post published Tuesday, along with a video of Swan explaining how Trump is using the media attention from various court appearances and legal fights to benefit his campaign.

Trump’s legal dramas, Swan noted, have brought a surge of donations to his campaign.

That framing did not sit well with Conway, a prominent critic of the former president.

“I hate this framing. Trump is a narcissistic psychopath. We need to stop projecting normality and rationality on him,” Conway wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “THERE. IS. NO. STRATEGY.”

Trump, the Republican front-runner, currently faces multiple criminal charges in connection with his handling of classified documents, efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and a hush money payment ahead of the 2016 election.

A jury in New York last week ordered the former president to pay tens of millions of dollars to author E. Jean Carroll after finding he had defamed her. Another jury found Trump liable for sexually assaulting Carroll in the 1990s, which Trump continued to deny.

Conway was at one time married to Kellyanne Conway, a top Trump adviser, and regularly appears on cable news channels disparaging Trump and his allies.
