Rahm Emanuel joins The Atlantic as contributing editor

Rahm Emanuel has joined The Atlantic as a contributing editor, according to a Tuesday announcement from the former Chicago mayor.

Emanuel, who also served as chief of staff to then-President Obama from January 2009 to October 2010, will contribute “frequent essays to The Atlantic’s Ideas section” per a statement from the 162 year-old publication.

{mosads}Emanuel has written 13 articles for The Atlantic dating back to June 2017, including his latest piece, “It’s Time to Hold American Elites Accountable for Their Abuses,” which was published Tuesday.

The announcement comes after Lori Lightfoot was sworn in as Chicago’s 56th mayor on Monday. Lightfoot, 56, is the first black woman and the first gay Chicagoan to lead the city. 

Emanuel decided not run for re-election in last year’s mayoral election as his approval ratings languished in the 30s.

The Daily Beast reported in November that Emanuel has also sat down with “top executives” at CNN and MSNBC about possibly joining as a pundit.
