Chris Wallace on Trump-Pelosi feud: ‘Neither of them look good’
“Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace jabbed both President Trump and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), saying Friday that “nobody is a winner” in the personal spat between the two.
The veteran newsman pointed to big-ticket items such as fixing the nation’s infrastructure that he says aren’t being addressed as a result of the volatile back-and-forth.
“Nobody is a winner here. Neither of them look good,” Wallace told “America’s Newsroom” on Friday.
{mosads}”In this point between Pelosi and Trump, there are no winners,” he added. “And we, all on the sidelines, while it’s entertaining, it isn’t very good for the country.”
On Wednesday, Trump walked out of a meeting with Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) not long after Pelosi told reporters that members of her party believe the president is engaged in a “cover-up” by refusing to cooperate with Democratic-led investigations.
The Democratic leader also urged members of Trump’s family to stage “an intervention” while saying she was personally “praying” for the president.
Trump fired back at Pelosi, nicknaming her “Crazy Nancy” and declaring she had “lost it.” He threatened not to cooperate with Democrats on their legislative agenda unless they shut down the investigations into his finances and conduct in office.
Wallace warned that while the war of words between the Speaker and the president continues, big issues including infrastructure and funding the government will not be addressed.
“There are a lot of things that have to get done in the course of this year, let alone 2020 and the campaign,” Wallace said. “They have to figure out how to fund the government by Oct. 1. They have to raise the debt limit or the country goes into default.”
Congress began departing for its Memorial Day recess on Thursday.
