Some White House reporters planning goodbye party for Sarah Sanders
Two White House reporters from Politico and the Daily Mail are reportedly planning a going-away party next week for White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Politico’s Anita Kumar and the Mail’s Francesca Chambers reportedly invited reporters and the outgoing press secretary to “farewell drinks” at an upscale Washington D.C. bar and restaurant, according to an invitation obtained by HuffPost.
{mosads}Sanders did not immediately return a request for comment on the invitation from The Hill. Throughout her time as press secretary, Huckabee Sanders has faced criticism from some in the media for her defenses of Trump’s often harsh attacks on news organizations and in some cases individual reporters.
Sanders was also the subject of criticism over the infrequency of daily White House press briefings, which have all but completely ceased in recent months.
The party, reportedly scheduled for June 24, marks the beginning of Sanders’ last week on the job. Trump announced via Twitter last week that Sanders would depart at the end of the month after serving as Trump’s longest-running press secretary.
“After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas,” Trump wrote, adding: She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!”
