Booker: Trump enablers ‘will go down in history as despicable actors’
Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) on Tuesday night ripped those who “enable” President Trump, saying they will be judged by history.
Booker told MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell that “they will go down in history as despicable actors who have enabled” Trump, who he believes “is doing some of the worst things” in the history of the country.
“Those people who are enabling him, who witness the kind of things he does on a regular basis, those people that are enabling him, there’s a cold, frigid place under the historical eye,” the 2020 Democratic hopeful said on “The Last Word.”{mosads}
“They will go down in history as despicable actors who have enabled a president who’s doing some of the worst things in that office in the history of our country,” he continued before later adding, “the truth about Donald Trump will come out. I have a very low regard for people who know he’s doing wrong but defend him and empower him to remain in that office.”
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Tuesday a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump amid Democratic concerns that the president pressured Ukraine’s president to look into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden’s dealings in Ukraine.
Trump has called the allegations a “witch hunt” and “nonsense” while fundraising off Democrats’ impeachment effort.
Booker is one of several 2020 presidential candidates who have called for Trump’s impeachment.
He currently stands at 2 percent in the RealClearPolitics index of polls.
