Carl Bernstein says Trump is ‘unraveling’ due to evidence of ‘corruption’
Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein said President Trump was going through “an unraveling” because there is evidence of his “corruption” outlined in a whistleblower complaint about his call with the president of Ukraine.
{mosads} “We are seeing both in real time, with the President’s remarks and also through documentary evidence, his corruption,” Bernstein, a CNN analyst, told the news network.”We’re watching, too, an unraveling in front of us, both factually and also temperamentally, in terms of the conduct of the President of the United States.”
“And why?” he added. “Well, partly because the President of the United States recognizes that there is in this whistleblower’s documents terrible evidence of the President’s corruption.”
Bernstein also said there were “parallels” between certain allegations in the complaint and circumstances surrounding former President Richard Nixon’s impeachment inquiry.
“These are clearly documents that the President doesn’t want exposed, and which according to the whistleblower and other witnesses, demonstrate the President’s cover up as well as his actions, per se, in these Ukraine phone calls,” he added. “There are definitely some parallels here.”

A declassified version of whistleblower’s complaint, which was released Thursday, said that “multiple White House officials with direct knowledge” told the whistleblower about aspects of the call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, including that “the President used the remainder of the call to advance his personal interests. Namely, he sought to pressure the Ukrainian leader to take actions to help the President’s 2020 reelection bid.”
The complaint also said that White House officials tried to “lock down” records of the phone call and that White House lawyers directed officials to remove the electronic transcript from the computer system where they are normally stored.
President Trump has denied wrongdoing in his phone call with Zelensky and blasted the complaint as “Another Fake News Story!”
