‘Jeopardy’ Tournament of Champions contestants fail to name Michael Avenatti in clue

All three contestants on Thursday night’s “Jeopardy!” episodes could not provide Michael Avenatti’s name to a question about who represented adult-film star Stormy Daniels.

The failures were all the more notable coming during the long-running show’s “Tournament of Champions” event, which brought back some of its most successful contestants.

“This lawyer’s star rose while repping Stormy Daniels but fell after he was accused of trying to extort millions from Nike in 2019,” host Alex Trebek read.

Former champs James Holzhauer, Emma Boettcher, and Francois Barcomb all stared blankly at the answer screen before time expired, prompting a rare quip from Trebek: “His name, quickly forgotten, obviously: Michael Avenatti.”

The clip quickly went viral on social media.

“This clip keeps getting better and better every time I watch it,” wrote Republican National Committee Rapid Response Director Steve Guest.

“Says the idiot nobody knows of who will always be known as nothing more than a Trump sycophant spewing lies to keep a corrupt President in power,” Avenatti, once considered as a possible 2020 Democratic challenger, shot back.

Avenatti also noted other answers contestants didn’t know on the program.

The former lawyer for Daniels in her lawsuit against President Trump once appeared hundreds of times over a six-month period on CNN and MSNBC, where he frequently tore into the president.

“I think I was the most interviewed person in the United States last year. It’s either me or Trump,” Avenatti told The Washington Post earlier this year.

The embattled 48-year-old has since pleaded not guilty to charges he attempted to extort Nike for $25 million.

Avenatti has also been charged separately with defrauding Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, in a book deal advance.

He also faces federal fraud charges in California related to former clients.

Avenatti has staunchly denied any claims of wrongdoing.
