Maddow worried about being targeted in possible second Trump term

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow says she is worried about being targeted by former President Trump if he wins a second term in the White House this fall.

“I think there’s a little bit of head-in-the-sand complacency that Trump only intends to go after individual people he has already singled out,” Maddow told CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy as part of an interview that published Monday. “Do you really think he plans to stop at well-known liberals?”

“It also seems pretty clear that some people in politics might think they’ll be on the safe side — that they might even benefit from it — if they side with Trump,” she added. “Ask Mike Pence about how that works out in the end.”

Trump has for years railed against MSNBC and attacked Maddow specifically over what he says is unfair reporting and commentary.

The former president last fall went so far as to suggest NBC’s parent company Comcast Universal be investigated “for treason” over its coverage of him.

“When Trump invokes the Insurrection Act to deploy the U.S. military against civilians on his first day in office, do you think he then rescinds the order on day two? For that matter, what convinces you that these massive camps he’s planning are only for migrants?” Maddow said. “So, yes, I’m worried about me — but only as much as I’m worried about all of us.”

Her remarks come just under two weeks after the former president was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in his hush money criminal trial. Following the guilty verdict, much of Trump’s rhetoric has turned to talk that prosecution of his political opponents be “very possible,” as he gears up to face Biden again in November.

The former president’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he is expected to be named the official GOP presidential nominee.
